Medical sources in Gaza report that Israeli attacks have killed at least 18 people across the besieged enclave since midnight (21:00 GMT, Friday), according to the Palestinian Information Center and the Quds News Network.
Hamas: Ready for Immediate Talks
Hamas officials say they are ready to begin ceasefire talks immediately on a new proposal, as violence continues to escalate. On Thursday alone, Gaza’s civil defence agency confirmed more than 50 deaths caused by Israel’s offensive.
Islamic Jihad Wants Truce Guarantees
Hamas ally Islamic Jihad announced its support for the truce plan, but has demanded “clear guarantees” that talks would lead to a permanent ceasefire. The group made the statement after meeting with other Palestinian factions.
Netanyahu to Visit Washington
The developments come just days before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to visit Washington on Monday. The visit is expected to focus on the ceasefire effort being promoted by US President Donald Trump, who has said he is pushing for an end to the war, now in its 21st month.
Updated Death Toll
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 57,268 people and wounded over 135,625. Meanwhile, the October 7, 2023 attacks inside Israel killed an estimated 1,139 people and resulted in the capture of more than 200 individuals.
