Gaza City, Gaza Strip — At least 13 Palestinians were killed and more than 200 injured on Wednesday after Israeli troops opened fire near an aid distribution point in northern Gaza, according to health officials and eyewitnesses.

The crowd had gathered near a UN relief site in al-Nuseirat refugee camp. As people surged forward for food aid, gunfire broke out. The Israeli military claims troops responded to a "perceived threat" at the scene.

"We came to get flour for our families. Suddenly, people started falling — blood was everywhere," said Ahmed Salem, a survivor. "We were not armed. We just wanted to eat."

Emergency medics reported a mix of bullet injuries and trampling trauma. Makeshift hospitals are overwhelmed as Gaza faces a crippling power and supply crisis.

The IDF said it is “reviewing the incident,” but rights groups condemned what they call a systematic failure to protect civilians.

This marks the third fatal incident near aid centers in Gaza within weeks. UN officials are urging for international protection and safer delivery routes.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has labeled the event a "massacre" and called on global powers to intervene immediately.
