Rostov/Kyiv— Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and Rostov, a city in southern Russia, were both hit by a series of attacks that resulted in at least nine deaths overnight.
| According to Zelenskyy, Kyiv is looking for agreements that will make Ukraine stronger rather than weaker. |
Shortly after midnight, local authorities reported explosions that severely damaged a number of residential areas. As fires started in several districts, emergency personnel raced to the scene.
Following what they described as a "massive aerial assault," officials in Kyiv confirmed casualties. Even though several drones were intercepted by air defenses, falling debris nevertheless seriously damaged areas of the city.
Regional authorities in Rostov, meanwhile, claimed that Ukraine had attacked an industrial area in retaliation. Responders worked through the night to contain the damage, and Russian media reported both fatalities and injuries.
One of the deadliest cross-border escalations in recent weeks is this overnight violence. Both governments denounced the attacks and promised more action as tensions between the two countries continue to rise, while international observers called for moderation to avoid more civilian deaths.
